The global energy storage safety accident in 2024 involves many types and countries or regions, including many accidents in the United States, Germany, Australia and other countries. For example, the fire of Gateway energy storage power station in California lasted for 11 days, the explosion of lithium battery energy storage container in Nilmore business district of Germany, etc., and the number of electrochemical energy storage accidents in China in 2024 also reached 159, with an average of about 14 accidents per month and one accident every two days.
Some accident cases in 24 years:
On April 27, a lithium battery energy storage container caught fire in the business district of Nilmore (Lille District) in Germany. A large amount of smoke was generated at the fire site. The highway was completely closed from 11:30 at night to 5:30 in the morning. The fire was extinguished only after about 10 hours. During this period, several small-scale explosions occurred one after another, with an estimated loss of 500000 euros per month.
On May 15, a fire broke out at the Gateway energy storage power station in Otay Mesa (Otay Mesa), San Diego, California, USA. The lithium-ion battery heated up very quickly. The fire burned for 11 days, during which it reignited many times.
On June 7, the container battery energy storage system operated by the Suncycle Engineering Test Center in Thuringia, Germany, or the fire department took 4 hours to put out the fire. The damage is estimated at 70 euros.
On June 30, a container in Suncycle, Thuringia, Germany, caught fire again. Including from Iseroda, Batbel and Nohra, a total of about 100 firefighters arrived at the scene of the fire, and finally completed the fire after 12 hours.
On July 27, after a truck carrying container energy storage equipment overturned on Interstate 15 in the United States, the battery container caught fire. It is reported that the truck in the accident was loaded with six industrial-grade lithium energy storage systems. The container weighs 34 tons. The accident caused the road to be closed for more than 44 hours before passing, causing serious traffic jams and trapping thousands of drivers.
